Mission in Action Award Honoree Mike Dunphy, St. Vincent’s Villa, Associate Administrator
Each year, Catholic Charities awards staff who have consistently embodied our Mission: Inspired by the Gospel mandates to love, serve and teach, Catholic Charities provides care and services to improve the lives of Marylanders in need.
In Mike’s role in overseeing the complex world of referrals and admissions, he works tirelessly to advocate for children and families in acute crisis—and does so in a caring and compassionate manner. It is impossible to quantify the difference he has made in the lives of thousands of children over his three decades with the agency.

It is my privilege to nominate Mike Dunphy for the 2022 Distinguished Service Award for his 30 years of dedicated and compassionate service to St. Vincent’s Villa and Catholic Charities. He is a humble man with great intelligence, integrity, intelligence, and humor, Mike does an outstanding job of leading the residential and clinical program and overseeing admissions at St. Vincent’s Villa.
He has played a critical leadership role in the ever-evolving and challenging world of children’s residential care and behavioral health. In Mike’s role in overseeing the complex world of referrals and admissions, he works tirelessly (24/7/365) to advocate for children and families in acute crises. He not only provides critical information but does so in a caring and compassionate manner.
He has also formed valuable relationships and partnerships with all of our external stakeholders/referral agencies and has been key in making St. Vincent’s Villa the quality and reputable program it is today.
During the COVID pandemic, Mike has demonstrated his strong leadership in managing the many health and safety needs and concerns of the children, families, and staff. Mike’s work and dedication to the Mission, Vision, and Values of Catholic Charities and the Catholic Church exemplify what it means to cherish the divine within all by building and strengthening families through safe and permanent connections.
It is impossible to quantify the difference Mike has made in the lives of thousands of children over his three decades with the agency. But clearly, he has made the lives of Maryland’s most vulnerable children and families safer and better.
