CCAR Recovery Coach Academy© Training
Become a certified peer recovery coach through Catholic Charities of Baltimore and get on the path to becoming a peer recovery specialist through this MABPCB approved training. The program includes two weekends of classroom instruction covering 30 CEUs.
When you complete this intensive five-day CCAR Recovery Coach Academy©, you will be able to:
- Describe the recovery coach role and functions
- List the components, core values and guiding principles of recovery
- Build skills to enhance relationships
- Explore many dimensions of recovery and recovery coaching
- Discover attitudes about self-disclosure and sharing your story
- Understand the stages of recovery
- Describe the stages of change and their applications
- Increase awareness of culture, power and privilege
- Address ethical and boundaries issues
- Experience recovery wellness planning
Classes for 2026 are held April 11, 12, 18, 19 from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm. Must attend all four dates to complete.

Ethics for Peers
This is an MABPCB approved training with Catholic Charities. Catholic Charities serves children, families, seniors, people living in poverty, and individuals struggling with substance use at 80 programs at over 200 locations throughout Maryland.
Participants of this course will be able to:
- Understand the role of ethics and its importance as a peer recovery coach
- Learn the importance of setting boundaries
- Demonstrate the role ethics play in the decision making process
- Develop an awareness of issues like bias, confidentiality and commonly occurring ethical scenarios

Unhoused Heroes: Outreach and Peer Recovery with Veterans
According to NIDA, 11% of those presenting for care at the Veteran’s Administration are diagnosed with substance use disorder, a much higher rate than the general population. Rates of Chronic Homelessness, as defined by Congress, are twice as high among veterans than the general population. Despite decades of efforts from the VA and extensive media coverage of drug use and housing insecurity among veterans, substance use continues to rise among veterans and active military.
Participants of this course will be able to:
- Compare rates of SUD an Mental Health in veteran and civilian population
- Understand the internal and external barriers Veterans face when seeking treatment
- Demonstrate an understanding of PTSD, transference and counter-transference as it applies to veterans
- Identify and describe resources for veterans, including those who do not have access to the Veterans Administration
- Understand the effects of military culture on both addiction and recovery
- Demonstrate an ability to effectively engage with veterans using motivational interviewing and trauma-informed care
