Gallagher Establishes Namesake Fund in Support of Esperanza Center

Gallagher LLP and Catholic Charities of Baltimore have announced the creation of The Gallagher LLP Fund for Esperanza Center, which will preserve and expand the center’s programming. This new source of support, stemming from the distribution of cy pres funds following a recent court settlement, aligns with Gallagher’s longstanding partnership with Catholic Charities and other mission-oriented clients.

The Esperanza Center is a comprehensive resource center whose mission is to welcome immigrants by providing services related to education, health care, immigration legal matters, and general community support. This fund will enable several improvements to services at Esperanza Center. In the short-term, a portion of the fund will help preserve and expand educational opportunities including English as a Second Language classes. Prior to the fund’s establishment, Esperanza Center was considering closing its education programs because of lack of funding.

“The Esperanza Center and its dedicated staff team are a crucial support for our new neighbors in Baltimore and surrounding areas,” said Dave Kinkopf, executive director of Catholic Charities. “This major gift from our friends at Gallagher will enable The Esperanza Center to sustain its critical services to the community and increase opportunities for immigrants to pursue paths to citizenship, employment, and better lives.”

A substantial portion of the fund will be preserved for future needs of Esperanza Center, which could include providing support services to the immigrant community in areas such as physical and mental health, legal services, case management, education, material assistance, and workforce development. Additionally, the primary educational space at Esperanza Center will be named “The Gallagher LLP Education Center,” to commemorate the long-standing support and partnership between Gallagher and Catholic Charities.

“Giving back is ingrained in our firm and it always has been,” said Meghan Casey, Partner at Gallagher. “It’s one of our core values, so we were thrilled to be able to facilitate this gift that will support the critically important work of The Esperanza Center and Catholic Charities.”

This expanded partnership will be celebrated with a plaque unveiling ceremony in the spring.
